Britain Palestine Project: A New Chapter

On 13 March 2025, we formally relaunched as the Britain Palestine Project, marking a renewed commitment to advocating for justice, equality, and Britain’s responsibility in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The transition from the Balfour Project to the Britain Palestine Project reflects our mission to hold Britain accountable for its historical obligations and to push for meaningful policy change.

Our relaunch was commemorated with two events: a diplomatic reception g at the Travellers Club at lunch time and an evening Parliamentary reception in the River Room of the House of Lords.

Diplomatic Event at the Travellers Club

The afternoon event at the Travellers Club was attended by representative members of the Arab Ambassadors Council, including Ambassadors from Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine, as well as representatives from Bahrain and Oman.

Andrew Whitley, Chair of Trustees, opened the event:

“We are here at a landmark moment for our charity, one when we rededicate ourselves to seeking peace, justice, and equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians. The Britain Palestine Project will be equally resolute in maintaining our commitment to inclusiveness and non-partisanship.”

He emphasized that the name change is not about being against Israel but rather about focusing on Britain’s obligations under international law and supporting equal rights for both peoples.

Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot underscored Britain’s role:

“The Britain Palestine Project carries a lot of meaning for us at this particular point in time. It links Britain’s historic responsibility for Palestine—not by way of attaching guilt, but by seeking leadership and statesmanship. The UK is in the driver’s seat for finally reaching justice and peace in Palestine, and this project is needed now more than ever.”

Ambassador Zomlot highlighted that London and the UK have become the epicenter of international solidarity for Palestine and that the widespread public and parliamentary support for Palestinian statehood must now be translated into action.

Parliamentary Reception at the House of Lords

Later that evening, our Parliamentary relaunch took place in the River Room, hosted by Lord Soames, with speeches by Andrew Whitley, Executive Director Dr. Brian Brivati, and Andy Slaughter MP.

Lord Soames set the tone by reaffirming Britain’s historical responsibility:

“The 1917 Balfour Declaration promised support for a Jewish homeland but also pledged that ‘nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights’ of non-Jewish communities in Palestine. 108 years later, these conditions have not been upheld, creating a historic injustice that must weigh heavily upon Britain.”

He called for Britain to recognise Palestinian statehood immediately, arguing that UK recognition is both morally right and in our national interest.

Dr. Brian Brivati, Executive Director of the Britain Palestine Project, reinforced the urgency of action:

“We relaunch as the Britain Palestine Project to help bring Britain back to the road of international law. Truth, history, and law have become pawns in the global disinformation wars, and it is our duty to restore them.”

He outlined our expanded advocacy and education initiatives, calling on supporters to engage in parliamentary debates, challenge disinformation, and push for policy change.

Andy Slaughter MP called for decisive government action:

“Recognising Palestine immediately is not only Britain’s moral duty but a practical step toward lasting peace. We must enforce sanctions on illegal settlements, defend international law, and lead a credible, Palestinian-led reconstruction effort in Gaza.”

He also stressed the need for Britain to stand up to U.S. policies that hinder Palestinian self-determination, drawing comparisons to past UK leadership in shaping global diplomacy.

Taking Action: The Next Steps

As part of this relaunch, we will shortly be launching a nationwide petition calling for a full parliamentary debate on British policy toward Palestine. Our key demands for the UK government are:

  • Recognise Palestine now—without further delay.
  • Ensure Palestine’s territorial integrity, including the reunification of Gaza with the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
  • Endorse and implement the ICJ’s Advisory Opinion on the illegality of the occupation.
  • Defend the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its British prosecutor, Karim Khan KC, from external intimidation.
  • Work with partners for a peaceful end to the occupation, enabling Palestinian self-determination.

These demands are not radical—they are grounded in international law, human rights, and Britain’s responsibility as a historic actor in the region.
