The Britain & Palestine Essay Competition, named after Professor Roger Spooner, invites rigorous, evidence-led historical research to help shape public understanding and debate.
Essay options (max 3,000 words):
- New synthesis of existing scholarship
- Previously published work (with rights)
- New, unpublished research
Key themes include:
- Christian Zionism & British politics (from 1840s)
- The Mandate period (esp. 1923–1939)
- The Mandate endgame (1939–1948)
- Britain’s post-Mandate role (1948–1967)
Prizes (£3,000 total):
- £1,500 First Prize
- 3 × £500 Runner-up prizes
Winners will be published and invited to present at a public awards lecture (travel support available).
